StudentsStudents Accomplish Amazing Assignment

Over the course of the past school year, over fifty Detroit high school students accomplished a very awesome feat. Keep reading for the details!

StudentsNo Ordinary Assignment

Students really got to think outside of the box, and the classroom, for this assignment. Their task: build a working vehicle from almost thousand parts. What they created: 1965 Ford Daytona Coupe. How awesome is that?

This is an extremely unique learning experience created by the Ford Motor Company Fund. It’s the philanthropic division of Ford Motor Company. They, along with the Detroit Public Schools Community District and Experience Aviation designed this one of a kind assignment.

StudentsUnique Learning Experience

Through this hands-on project, students learned how science, engineering, math, technology and even the arts come together in a work environment. Students learned important skills and increased their awareness of technology-based careers. Over the course of eighteen weeks, students spent time creating and assembling the 1965 Ford Daytona Coupe. Under the hood: a 306 engine and offers 350 horsepower, a Ford TK5 transmission and new rear suspension. Factory Five Racing Inc designed the car. Track tested and unveiled at Ford Dearborn Development Center, the Daytona Coupe was a sight to behold.

“Ford is proud to be a part of a collective effort to help Detroit Public School Community District students prepare for careers in STEAM,” said Shawn Wilson, multicultural manager, Ford Motor Company Fund. “Students who are inspired to learn are better prepared to reach their full potential in academics and in life.”

This had to be one seriously fun assignment! It’s definitely not your ordinary auto-body shop class. The participating students got to learn for themselves how different areas of study work together.
