The Swedish Volvo brand got its start more than 90 years ago. In its early days, Volvo was known for producing vehicles that were recognized for their safety, quality construction, and practicality. They were not known for being overly flashy. Volvo produced its first luxury vehicle in 1933, which was known as the PV 654. It was outfitted with a 3.67L six-cylinder engine that delivered 80 to 84 hp. It also featured more sophisticated interior touches.
Since then, Volvo created both luxury models and vehicles that focused on practicality. For example, the 760, which was produced in the 1980s, was a boxy sedan without much flair.
In 1990, the 760 was replaced by the sleeker 960. This upgraded sedan was equipped with a new 3.0L inline six-cylinder engine. In fact, this was the vehicle that inspired the production of the Volvo S90. The S80 became the brand’s new flagship sedan in 2006, and it remained so until the debut of the 2017 S90.
Currently, drivers in the Murrells Inlet area can see how Volvo luxury cars like the XC60, XC90, and S60 stack up against vehicles from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Lexus, Audi, and INFINITI. You may be quite surprised at the positive results!
Did you know that Volvo was selected as one of the top 10 best luxury brands for 2018 by U.S. News? Volvo vehicles were praised for their streamlined stylish design, as well as their incredible safety. The review also noted that “most of Volvo’s models were redesigned recently and feature the latest infotainment and automated driving technology.”
