There’s a saying: “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” Nothing could be truer when it comes to EcoBoost lineup of engines. While EcoBoost combines several technologies to deliver power and efficiency, adding other engine technologies raises the bar even further!
All EcoBoost engines share technologies and design elements that serve up impressive power and efficiency. Engines featuring EcoBoost technologies squeeze more power out of the same-size conventional engine. Ford some customers, that means they do not have to move up to a larger engine. Plus, it goes with saying that a smaller displacement engine is innately lighter and more efficient. There are also three types of turbo charging: Single, Single twin-scroll and Dual-twin, which delivers more boost compared to a single turbo and is water-cooled to help prevent carbon buildup.
Direct injections moves pressurized fuel to high-pressure injectors that manage the precise timing and intensity of fuel based on driver demand. In regard to power density, in the past engines designed only to produce 40 horsepower per liter. All of today’s EcoBoost engines make more than 100 horsepower per liter. EcoBoost uses strong materials such as compacted graphite iron for the engine block on some designs and lightweight materials such as aluminum on a variety of engine components. This reduces vehicle weight. Combinations like these contribute to an overall strong, compact and lightweight design. You can think of EcoBoost as a performance technology that is designed for the long haul!
