2016 Ford Edge

We expect our SUV customers to do a lot of research and cross-shopping before they visit our dealership. We know many of our shoppers will include all-wheel drive (AWD) on their list of must haves. That’s one reason Ford has offered Intelligent AWD standard on Sport models of the 2016 Ford Edge. It’s also available on all other models and in combination with every engine.

The 2016 Ford Edge features a striking design, inside and out, with exterior features that include an aggressive front fascia, headlamps, grills and lower valance. The 2016 Ford Edge also has available LED signature lighting, fast-rakers windshield and a back window that provides an feeling of motion. There are sharp graphic lines and angles that define the profile and standard 18-inch and optional 19-, 20- and 21-inch aluminum wheel lineups. The 2016 Ford Edge also offers LED tail lamp design that features a modern, jewel-like appearance.

On the inside, the 2016 Ford Edge will offer a driver-centric cockpit design and a precision-fit instrument panel with soft-touch surfaces. The center stack flows smoothly from the instrument panel to the center console and will offer available ambient lighting. Also available in the 2016 Ford Edge will be the panoramic Vista Roof with power sunshade.

The 2016 Ford Edge offers Intelligent AWD as a standard feature on Sport models and will be available on every  other trim level and across the entire engine lineup. The system works seamlessly to provide performance and safety benefits. AWD is a fully automatic system with no buttons to push or gears to select. Regardless of road conditions, AWD continuously monitors vehicle speed, throttle input, steering angle and wheelslip to send power automatically to the appropriate wheels. The system can react within milliseconds to distribute up to 100% of the available torque to the rear wheels. When the system determines that AWD capability is not needed, it defaults to front-wheel drive to help conserve fuel.

The 2016 Ford Edge AWD helps eliminate torque steer and helps balance the vehicle for confident cornering. It also helps to enhance overall handling by allowing the front tires to apply more available traction to steer the vehicle. When cornering, the AWD transfers torque away from the front wheels to the rear wheels which helps to reduce what is commonly known as understeer. The AWD system also reacts so quickly that not only does it reduce wheelslip but it also helps prevent the slip from occurring in the first place.
