All versions of the S60 and V60 are powered by the same basic engine, a 2.0L 4-cylinder matched to both a supercharger and a turbocharger. In base T5 form, the engine is good for 250 horsepower, sent to the front or all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic. S60 T6 versions are powered by a more powerful version of the same engine making 316 horsepower, while the T8 version uses a hybrid system to bring total power output up to 400 horsepower, with a massive 495 lb-ft of torque on tap as well. T6 and T8 versions only come in all-wheel drive to help put all the power to the ground.
The S60 is available in three basic trims. The Momentum trim sits at the bottom of the S60 and V60 hierarchy. The Inscription trim dials back the sportiness of the R-Design and instead dials up the luxury. It rides on its own set of 18-inch wheels, but the exterior of the car gains some extra brightwork over the R-design along with a unique front grille. There is also a Polestar Engineered high performance version of the car. It comes only with the powerful, hybrid powertrain but also a tuned chassis, courtesy of Volvo's Polestar high performance division. The Volvo V60 and S60 are newly redesigned for this year. The S60 is the sedan and the V60 a wagon built on the same platform. The front-end styling is probably what's most immediately noticeable, with sharper creases around the lower fascia and more accentuation around the headlights, highlighting Volvo's signature "Thor's Hammer" LED design. The interior has also been subtly redesigned with a simplified infotainment system that puts an emphasis on minimalism without sacrificing functionality.

The Volvo S60 is aimed squarely at the BMW 3-series and the Audi A4 in the premium mid-sized car segment. With a base price of under $36,000, the S60 is priced very competitively with those cars. The V60 wagon offers more standard features but costs around $4,000 more than the sedan. In addition, Volvo offers a "Cross Country" version of the V60 wagon, with more suspension travel, a higher ride height and more crossover-like styling details. And even though it's the most expensive model of the lot, with a price of around $45,000, the V60 Cross Country still offers pretty good value when compared to other similarly sized crossovers on the market. All versions of the car are powered by a fuel efficient but powerful 4-cylinder engine, and the new interior maintains Volvo's reputation as some of the best in the business.
